Leather is a natural material that offers a rich, tactile experience and develops unique character over time. With proper care, Elevated Living’s leather pieces will age gracefully, becoming even more beautiful with use. This guide outlines how to clean, condition, and protect different types of leather to maintain their elegance and longevity.

Daily & Routine Care

1. Dusting & Light Cleaning

  • Wipe surfaces with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth regularly to remove dust.
  • For weekly maintenance, use a soft brush attachment on a vacuum to remove debris from seams and crevices.

2. Spot Cleaning Spills

  • Blot spills immediately using a clean, dry cloth—do not rub.
  • For water-based spills, dab gently with a cloth dampened with distilled water.
  • Allow to air dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight.

Leather-Type Specific Care

1. Full-Grain & Top-Grain Leather

  • Use a leather-specific conditioner every 6–12 months to maintain suppleness and prevent drying or cracking.
  • Avoid applying polish, oils, or waxes not intended for leather.

2. Aniline & Semi-Aniline Leather

  • These are more absorbent and prone to staining—always use protective sprays designed for aniline leather.
  • Do not use water or household cleaners; blot only with a dry cloth.

3. Nubuck & Suede Finishes

  • Brush regularly with a nubuck brush or suede eraser to lift surface dirt.
  • Protect with a nubuck-safe protective spray to guard against stains and watermarks.
  • Avoid moisture and never saturate the surface.

Preventative Measures

1. Environmental Protection

  • Keep leather products away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
  • Maintain indoor humidity levels between 40–60% to avoid cracking or mildew.
  • Avoid placing leather near radiators, fireplaces, or air vents.

2. Physical Protection

  • Use throws or covers in high-use areas to reduce wear.
  • Avoid contact with sharp objects (e.g., keys, zippers) that may scratch or tear the leather.
  • Keep pets’ claws trimmed and avoid their direct contact with delicate leather.

Stain Removal & Professional Maintenance

1. Ink, Oil & Dye Transfer

  • Do not attempt DIY removal—contact a professional leather cleaning service immediately.
  • Avoid dark clothing or denim on light-colored leather to prevent dye transfer.

2. Annual Deep Conditioning

  • Hire a professional leather care specialist once a year for deep cleaning and rejuvenation.
