Heck of a Hill

Building on perfection.

Principal designer Melinda Shirk Dorion leaned on the existing residential style to celebrate the unique wood detailing complimented by the iron supports and an intricate staircase.

The design inspiration took shape as a Jackson Retreat for family and two Airedale Terriers.

As a second home the clients wanted an upscale lodge “look” indicative of the west. Hickory dining chairs are balanced by a live edge antler coffee table in the great room. Heavy warm leather chairs are framed by Ralph Lauren plaid sofa’s pipped in suede.

“I love when a client gives us direction, then lets our team execute the design and trusts us to deliver!”

Elevated Living by Stockton and Shirk was referred by Sotheby’s International Realty to curate a beautiful Craftsmen style house nestled in Wilson. With Mount Glory prominently featured in the background, we worked with the lovely couple that acquired the home in 2018 to mold the house to their needs.

For these Texas-based clients, with four grown children and grand kids on the way, it was particularly important to make use of existing spaces that were not living up to their full potential. Over the course of a year, we transformed what was a three bedroom, three and a half bath house into a five bedroom, four and a half bath family home. With creativity and ingenuity we converted a loft into a quaint bedroom and an open basement into a bedroom suite, office and family room to better suit the new owners’ needs.

It was imperative that the new furnishings and construction complement, rather than compete with, the Craftsmen style of the home. The owners also requested that the space feel comfortable and homey, not like a museum or brand new build. Custom upholstery and hand made furniture were interspersed with quality case goods, antiques and Western touches to create a curated timeless lodge look. The elevated design and beautiful yet livable pieces are ones the family will continue to enjoy for many years to come.
