Transforming a House into a Home: A Light and Bright Remodel Located in Melody Ranch
Project Designers: Melinda Dorion and Cat Breeden
A team collaboration between Elevated Living’s Senior Designers. The Elevated Living Team transformed a 2004 Melody Ranch residence into a personal sanctuary that beautifully embodies our client’s design aesthetic. The design goal was to curate a space that not only reflects individuality but also serves as a haven for relaxation and rejuvenation. The transformation began in the kitchen, primary suite, and family room. The classic orange peel wall texture was replaced with a light skip trowel. Elevated Living modernized the finishes by taking all logs, accent timbers, and floors from gold to espresso. To keep the house light and bright, the walls were painted in White Dove and the trim was painted Simple White by Benjamin Moore. The project grew (as most do) to transform the stair railing with iron balusters and two additional bathroom renovations. It was a pleasure to breathe new life into the home by way of a light renovation, still working around the home’s heart, a handset masoned river rock fireplace.
Our Design Vision:
This was more than just a remodel; it was an opportunity to create a space that truly felt like a mountain sanctuary. The house sits against a conservation easement and at first sight, the homeowner could not see what Cat and Melinda could envision for this western diamond. Cat’s focus, “was on feminine details and a more transitional, contemporary aesthetic, ensuring the home was a reflection of our client’s individuality.”
The living room underwent a dramatic transformation with the addition of sleek pieces like the Anaya Console Table, Felix Oval Nightstand, and Oldknow Bookcase Lamp. Finishing touches, including the luxurious Ecru & Taupe Cashmere Throw and the elegant Onyx Bowl, brought our vision to life.

The Elevated Living Design Process:
The process of layering in finishes and material selections began with the kitchen. We worked with the client to select the mix of paint and stain for the kitchen cabinetry. Finish boards were presented to bring alive the future color palette of the home. With selections made, we worked with our trades to find the perfect stain for the existing orange fir floors, transforming them into a warm espresso (a feat for any master painter). Cabinet line drawings and renderings were provided to the client allowing them to see 3D modeling and compare existing to designed.
To keep consistency throughout the house, we used many of the same materials and finishes; such as quartz countertops and cabinet coloring. Curated lighting was thoughtfully collected for the kitchen island, dining area, and front entry as each fixture was to be unique or “special” without fighting each other on line-of-site viewing.
Once the construction phase was underway, the EL Team curated design presentations layering area rugs, furniture, a custom sectional, and window treatments. A top-to-bottom transformation was presented in a curated design presentation. Adding in inviting elements, including the Signature Series Winter Rabbit Faux Fur Throw, allowed the client to see exactly what the home was going to look like before any furniture was purchased. Thus gaining the client’s trust to fiscally handle a top to bottom remodel plus furniture.

The Finished Product:
Before: A misplaced wall divided the kitchen from the living room and entry. By removing the wall we allowed the entire kitchen to open up and take in the grandeur of the Great Room. Elevated Living’s cabinet designer, Cat Breeden, designed a size-appropriate Island with oversized pendants to create the perfect ambiance to be shared with family and friends, completing the mountain modern oasis our client had dreamed of. This beautiful Kitchen Island would not be complete without dark-finished parawood frames of the Ferris Bar + Counter Stool.
Melinda gives credit to our remarkable local trade partners. Without our trades, we would never have been able to start a project in early spring and turn over the keys for a family Thanksgiving Dinner. We were the cleaning team! Our top priority was giving the client their first memory of celebrating the holidays with family in the newly installed kitchen.
